Andrew Wood is an American writer, a retired Coast Guard officer, and an analyst working on the modernizing the Coast Guard’s fleet. His writing blends personal memoir, cultural criticism, and engages with the natural and political worlds. With observations and a skeptical eye, he explores the intersections of public service, governance, capitalism, and the human experience—particularly in the areas of maritime and travel. His essays examine the narratives people tell about themselves, the actions of those entrusted with public responsibility, and his experience working in government service for thirty five years.
He has an MFA in Creative Writing at The New School in New York City and is working on a collection of essays on travel, the U.S. influence abroad, and the challenges of good governance.
